Marcia Klompus Post Game Interview (Un-Cut RealAudio)
Marcia Klompus, President/Executive Director
The President/Executive Director of the Hula
Bowl Maui, Marcia has provided action-packed, highly visible sporting
events to the people of Hawaii since 1982. Her vast knowledge, energy
and enthusiasm in the competitive football marketing industry lends a distinctive
style to every element of the organization and to the State of Hawaii and Maui County.
Marcia's biggest effort lies in overseeing the coordination of the national
media, while keeping the lines of communication open with the bowl's
many corporate and media partners.
She has steered the
organization along a generous course of charitable giving, designating
local non-profit agencies, such as the Ronald McDonald House Charities
and the Hawaii Newspaper Agency Foundations as beneficiaries of the
games' proceeds. To date, millions of dollars of much needed funds have
been transferred to these non-profit groups to enhance the well being of
the local community.
Among her many creative projects is one that is
dear to her heart: The Straight A's Program, now in it's 13th year. This
major marketing campaign, supported by the Hawaii Department of
Education, awards students from K-12, two free tickets
to the Hula Bowl Maui, for perfect marks
of excellence on their
first quarter report cards. In 2000, this program reached over 250,000
public and private school students around the State of Hawaii and
distributed over 1,000 game tickets and A's hats to deserving students of all
ages.
Her most recent project has been the opening of the Hula Bowl Maui
retail outlet in the Maui Mall, giving the community's signature event a year-round
presence, as well as providing additional exposure for the Island of Maui.
Marcia became the first woman in NCAA history to organize and run a
post-season collegiate bowl game, when she was named the Executive
Director of the Jeep Aloha Bowl in 1988, a post she held until March
2000, before moving to Maui to focus exclusively on the Hula Bowl.
In July of 2000 Marcia received the Bud Dudley Executive Award and
she was honored for her achievements in Hawaii's sports marketing
industry by being named the Sports Person of the Year by the Honolulu
Quarterback Club in 1995.
Determined not to let obstacles get in the way
of her final goals, she was instrumental in the relocation of the 56-year
old Hula Bowl All-Star Football Classic from Honolulu to Maui, along with her
husband and business partner,
Lenny Klompus.
Marcia sits on the Board of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of Maui.
Adding a warm and personal touch to each business relationship is Marcia's motto.
