College Career: Throughout his illlustrious career, Antwaan Randle El solidly, and spectacularly, established himself as one of the top performers in college football history...the most statistically productive dual-threat quarterback to ever compete on the college gridiron, Randle El was selected as the first-team All-America quarterback by the Football Writers Association of America...was the first-team All-Big Ten quarterback and won the Chicago Tribune's "Silver Football" as the Big Ten's Most Valuable Player...finished 6th in the 2001 Heisman Trophy voting and received the most votes among Midwest voters in the regional balloting...was a second-team All-America "All-Purpose" player by the Associated Press...is a "human-highlight" film as he consistently displayed extraordinary running ability and a very strong arm. In a 45-30 win over the Broncos, Randle El completed 22 of 29 passes for 385 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran 23 times for 82 yards and 3 scores. His 467 yards of total offense set the all-time IU record, a total he has since surpassed...prior to the 2001 season, was recognized by Playboy as the first-ever multiple-threat position player on its Preseason All-America squad...in 44 career games from 1998-01, Randle El passed for 7,469 yards and a school record 42 touchdowns and rushed for 3,895 yards and 44 scores. He also has recorded a receiving touchdown. In doing so, he is the only player in Division I-A history who is a member of the "40-40 Club," as in 40 touchdowns passing and 40 scoring...in a 37-28 win at 22nd-ranked Michigan State, moved into first place on the NCAA Division I-A rushing list for quarterbacks (Dee Dowis, 3,612 yards, 1986-89)...in game six at Iowa, became IU's career passing yardage leader...finished his career in 5th place on the NCAA's career yardage list with 11,364 yards and passed former Boston College great and Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie in his final college game...in game three vs. Ohio State, became the only player in NCAA I-A history to record 6,000 career yards passing and 3,000 career yards rushing. He also became the only quarterback in Big Ten history to rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season (1,270 in 11 games)...as a sophomore in 1999, completed 150 of 279 passes for 2,277 yards and 17 touchdowns (7 INTs; one in final 23 quarters of 1999 campaign) and rushed for 788 yards and 13 scores. He became the first sophomore in Big Ten Conference history to reach 5,000 career total yards and reached 3,000 yards passing/1,500 yards rushing combination faster than any player in Division I-A history (19 games)...in 1998, won Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Year honors. Started all 11 games at quarterback and completed 127 of 273 passes for 1,745 yards and 6 touchdowns. Also rushed 227 times for 873 yards and 10 scores and caught 2 passes for 54 yards and one touchdown...was a point guard on IU's basketball team during the 1998-99 campaign and played on IU's baseball team in 2000...was a 14th-round draft selection of the Chicago Cubs in 1997.

2001: In a 26-15 win vs. Kentucky in the season finale, moved into fifth place on the NCAA Division I-A total yardage list with 11,364 yards and became the only player in Division I-A history to record 2,500 total yards in four consecutive seasons...in a win over Purdue in the Big Ten finale, moved into sixth place on the NCAA Division I-A total yardage list with 11,127 yards and passed ex-Tennessee great Peyton Manning in the process...with 366 total yards (225 passing/141 rushing) at Penn State, became college football's only 7,000-yard passer/3,500-yard rusher...in a 37-28 upset victory over 22nd-ranked Michigan State, moved into first place on the NCAA Division I-A rushing list as he recorded 149 rushing yards, including a 57-yard touchdown scamper. Set the school record for career touchdown passes with 36 when he connected with tight end Aaron Halterman to give IU a 32-0 lead with 3:13 remaining in the first quarter...in the Big Ten opener vs. Ohio State, became the only Division I-A player in history to record 6,000 career yards passing and 3,000 career yards rushing. Vs. the Buckeyes, completed 14 of 21 passes for 181 yards and one touchown. He also rushed 12 times for 70 yards...in the home opener vs. Utah, after playing primarily at wide receiver in the season opener at N.C. State, started at quarterback and completed 13 of 23 passes for 157 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 69 yards and two scores. In doing so, he became only the seventh quarterback in Divsion I-A history to rush for 3,000 yards in a career...in the season opener at N.C. State, started the contest at wide receiver and caught 4 passes for 30 yards, rushed 7 times for 37 yards, completed 1-of-2 passes for 7 yards and punted 3 times for an average of 35.0 yards per punt.

2000: A second-team All-Big Ten selection at quarterback, Randle El started 11 games and rushed 218 times for 1,270 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also passed for 1,783 yards and 10 scores and fell only 217 passing yards shy of becoming the first player in I-A history to rush for 1,000 yards and pass for 2,000 yards in a single season...with 1,270 yards, rushed for more yards than any I-A quarterback in 2000...in a 51-43 homecoming win versus Minnesota, earned national player-of-the-week honors from a variety of media outlets as he accounted for 473 total yards, including 263 yards and 2 touchdowns passing and 210 yards and 2 scores rushing...became the only quarterback in Big Ten history to rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season (1,270 in 11 games, the ninth-best total in I-A history)...helped lead an offense that was seventh nationally in rushing (266.4 ypg) and averaged 30.6 points per contest.

1999: As a sophomore, this bundle of energy completed 150 of 279 passes for 2,227 yards and 17 touchdowns (7 INTs) and rushed for 788 yards and 13 scores...became the first sophomore in the history of the Big Ten Conference to reach 5,000 career total yards...reached 3,000 yards passing/1,500 yards rushing combination faster than any player in college football history (19 games)...helped pace an offense that averaged 26.5 points and 405.9 yards per contest. Indiana's offense tallied 60 plays of 20-or-more yards...set single-season school records for touchdown passes (17) and total offense (3,065 yards)...in the season opener vs. Ball State, accounted for 276 total yards, completing 9 of 12 pass attempts for 154 yards and 2 touchdowns and rushed 22 times for 118 yards and one score. Second touchdown pass of the game to WR Versie Gaddis went for 81 yards, the longest completion in the history of Memorial Stadium...played extremely well in week two vs. North Carolina as he completed 17 of 29 passes for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also ran for 62 yards and one score. During a second quarter drive that pulled IU to within 21-16, rushed for 23 yards and completed 7 of 7 passes for 62 yards. He capped the drive with a 3-yard scoring pass to tight end Craig Osika. With IU trailing 35-23 early in the fourth quarter, led the Hoosiers on a scoring drive during which he rushed 4 times for 27 yards and completed his only pass, a 22-yard completion to wide receiver Jerry Dorsey...vs. Kentucky, completed 16 of 32 passes for 201 yards and one touchdown. He also threw 3 interceptions. Rushed 20 times for 115 yards and 3 scores and accounted for 316 total yards. Trailing 38-21 at the end of the third quarter, scored on a 7-yard run to pull IU to within 10 points at 38-28. Trailing 41-28, he found RB Levron Williams for a 34-yard touchdown pass that cut the UK lead to 41-35 with 3:17 remaining in the contest...at Penn State, yet another stellar performance and this time against one of the nation's finest defenses. Played the entire game and recorded 271 total yards as he finished 17-67-1TD rushing and 23-11-204-1INT-2TDs passing. Made some incredible pitches in the option game during the first half. Connected with WR Jerry Dorsey for a 34-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and threw a 27-yard scoring pass to WR Versie Gaddis in the fourth quarter that pulled IU to within 38-24...earned national player-of-the-week honors as he accounted for 422 total yards in a 34-31 overtime win over Illinois, while orchestrating the second biggest comeback in IU football history (IU trailed 28-7 with less than 5:00 minutes remaining in the third quarter). Randle El rushed 37 times for 157 yards and 3 touchdowns and completed 17 of 30 passes for 265 yards and one score and connected with RB Levron Williams on a 25-yard TD pass on the first play of overtime to provide IU with the victory. On a drive that closed Illinois' lead to 28-14, Randle El accounted for 100 yards of total offense on the 80-yard drive (gained more than 80 yards because of penalties)...in 34-17 win vs. Northwestern, helped the IU offense tally 543 total yards, including 429 yards on the ground. He rushed for 78 yards and 3 touchdowns and completed 6 of 8 passes for 114 yards. He threw one interception, a flanker screen that WR Jerry Dorsey batted into the air leading to an INT. Northwestern did its best to take Randle El away and sophomore RB Levron Williams rushed for 241 yards on 22 carries...at Wisconsin, did not account for a touchdown for the first time in 1999. Completed 10 of 25 passes for 153 yards and rushed 18 times for 28 yards, including 42 yards in losses because of sacks. Did not play the fourth quarter... led Indiana to a 38-31 victory at Iowa and completed 12 of 23 passes for 247 yards and a career-high 4 touchdowns. Became the fastest (19 games) in Division I-A history to reach 3,000 career passing yards/1,500 career rushing yards combination...threw 4 touchdown passes for the second consecutive week in a 34-31 loss vs. Michigan. Helped lead the Hoosiers back from a 17-0 deficit to take a 24-17 lead. Completed 18 of 34 passes for 290 yards and 4 touchdowns and also rushed for 31 yards. Became the first sophomore in Big Ten Conference history to reach 5,000 total yards...electrified the HHH Metrodome crowd as he escaped from pass rushers throughout the Minnesota game. Rushed 18 times for 64 yards and completed 12 of 30 passes for 161 yards and one interception. The INT was his first in 18 quarters...for yet another week, played an outstanding football game as he completed 22 of 33 passes for 329 yards and one touchdown and also rushed for 48 yards and one score vs. Purdue on his way to earning co-Big Ten Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors. Indiana amassed 446 total yards of offense and recorded eight plays of over 20 yards. On 3rd-and-16 early in the third quarter, connected with WR Derin Graham on a 36-yard TD pass that gave the Hoosiers a 7-0 advantage. Pushed IU's lead to 14-7 late in the first quarter when he scored on a one-yard run.

1998: The Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Year, Randle El was co-Big Ten Player-of-the-Week following his first college game and won the award again after a win over Iowa...a point guard on IU's basketball team at the time, was recognized by several media outlets during the 1998 season as one of the nation's top 10 two-sport athletes...became the first IU quarterback to tally four 100-yard-plus rushing games in a career...started 11 games at quarterback and completed 127 of 273 passes for 1,745 yards and 6 touchdowns...also rushed 227 times for 873 yards and 10 touchdowns and caught 2 passes for 54 yards and one score...making his first collegiate start after sitting out the 1997 season as a partial academic qualifier, completed 22 of 29 passes for 385 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran 23 times for 82 yards and 3 scores in season opening 45-30 win vs. Western Michigan. Completed 12 of 34 passes for 162 yards at Kentucky. Produced a 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that gave the Hoosiers a 10-3 lead...proved that his performance vs. Western Michigan was no fluke as he put together another phenomenal effort two weeks later at Cincinnati as he ran, caught, and threw for a touchdown. On 1st-n-10 from the IU-49, caught a 51-yard touchdown from wide receiver O.J. Conner on a throwback pass...was 19-10-145-2INTs passing in game four at Wisconsin but did enough different things offensively to keep Indiana in the game. Completed a 32-yard pass to WR Tyrone Browning late in the third quarter that helped set up a FB Chris Gall scoring run. Also recorded a 17-yard rush late in the first half that helped lead to an Andy Payne field goal...continued his stellar play at Michigan State as he rushed 21 times for 134 yards and one touchdown. He was also 16-10-147-0-0 passing. He helped lead IU back from a 16-0 deficit and into the lead (24-16) in the fourth quarter before having to leave the game with a mild concussion...won co-Big Ten Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors for the second time in 1998 following his performance during a 14-7 win over Iowa. He finished 16-84-1TD rushing, 19-8-114-1INT passing and led Indiana on fourth-quarter scoring drives of 99 and 75 yards. He scored on an 8-yard touchdown run with :41 remaining in the game to give IU a 12-7 lead that he increased to 14-7 after throwing to WR Levron Williams for the two-point conversion...tallied his third 100-yard rushing game of the season in game seven at Michigan as he was 26-110 rushing...was slowed on the ground in game eight vs. Ohio State but still managed to finish 31-16-218-1TD-1INT passing. Also rushed for 27 yards. Connected with wide receiver Levron Williams on a 37-yard touchdown pass on 4th-n-2 at the end of the first half... finished 18-77-1TD rushing and 39-20-193-2INTs passing in game nine at Illinois. Scored on an 18-yard touchdown run on a 1st-n-10 play early in the first quarter that gave IU a 7-0 lead. In a 20-19 win over Minnesota, rushed 26 times for a then career-high 143 yards and one touchdown. Also threw for one score...rushed for 64 yards and one touchdown in game 11 at Purdue.

As a member of the IU baseball team in 2000: Saw limited action as an outfielder on the IU baseball team. Left the team midway through the season to concentrate on academics and football.

As a member of the IU basketball team in 1998-99: A standout defender, Randle El joined Bob Knight's basketball team following the football season...on November 28, in his first practice with the team after returning from the Maui Classic, broke the second metacarpal bone in his right hand. The injury kept him out of action for four weeks...playing with a soft cast on his right hand, saw the first action of his career in a 106-54 win vs. San Francisco and scored 5 points and added 2 rebounds and 2 assists...played extremely well in a 72-62 victory over Ball State on Dec. 28 as he helped the IU defense hold the Cardinals without a point for the first 5:00 minutes of the second half. Tallied 3 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists...recorded a team-high 5 assists and 3 steals at Iowa on December 31...broke the fourth metacarpal bone in his right hand on Friday, February 5.

High School/Personal: Ranked as one of the top five football prospects in the Midwest following his senior season at Thornton High School in Riverdale, Ill., Randle El was a first-team all-state selection and the Illinois Gatorade Player-of-the-Year in 1996...rushed for 1,442 yards and 15 touchdowns and passed for 1,069 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior...as a junior, rushed for 950 yards and passed for 1,370...led his basketball team to back-to-back state runner-up finishes as a junior and senior and led the state of Illinois in assists in 1997...high school football coach was Bill Mosel...was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 14th round of the 1997 draft...his older brother, Curtis, was a defensive back at IU from 1996-99 who played in 32 career games (19 starts)...has a younger brother, Marcus, who is entering 10th grade and is said to be an athletic combination of his two brothers...an Indiana University graduate, Randle El was born 8/17/79.
