Packertime.com - Brett Favre Merchandise Brett Favre My Take
Idatasports.com Media Release - 08/21/09
Zippidy.com - Michael Zippidy Duda

As I read today's front page article "Why Favre Come back" in the USA Today Fri/Sat/Sun August 21-23, 2009. I couldn't help but think about all of my personal feelings which have surfaced because of some of the comments I have been hearing from Green Bay Packers Fans. First off, to give a little background, I have had the pleasure of spending time with Brett Favre on numerous occasions. (Autograph Sessions for our www.packertime.com site) My exposure to Brett Favre has always been enjoyable and I knew at the time that these were times I would cherish and always remember. It's true Brett Favre is a really nice guy.

My first thoughts are that I wish the people surrounding Brett... I.E. his family would have just sequestered him in Mississippi after the 2007 NFC Championship Game loss and not allow him to make any decision about retiring from the Green Bay Packers when he was feeling pressure to make a decision. We might have kept the train on the tracks and Brett might have still been playing with Green Bay or maybe even showing off a bright and shinny new Super Bowl Ring from 2009/2010????

What has happened with Brett it would seem is that an honest guy has had to make real life decisions about his future in the NFL and his new life outside of the NFL in front of the media without a PR firm tailoring his every word. It's kind of refreshing and a little disgusting all at the same time. I wonder whether fans would have been more irritated by him if he had some handler having him spew politically correct statements without trying to upset anyone????

I'm sure Aaron Rodgers who is an unwilling participant in this NFL QB saga could live a full life without ever hearing another Brett Favre question. He should be a better QB because of this new challenge. He won't admit it's a challenge, in fact to him in his mind it might seem like just some other game against the Minnesota Vikings. Let's be real, this match-up between Favre and Rodgers will be the talk of the NFL. These are the types of things that fuel rivalries and make for excellent NFL Football. Aaron Rodgers will feel the added pressure as these games against the Minnesota Vikings approach if he doesn't feel the pressure already. I feel as if this will be a good experience for the evolution of Aaron Rodgers as a QB.

Brett Favre coming back to play for the Minnesota Vikings has a two fold effect on me personally. One, I think it sicken's me that if Brett has something left in the tank he could effect the Green Bay Packers chances in the 2009/2010 playoffs and potentially the Super Bowl. Second, I find myself more excited about this year's NFL Season. It's almost as if we have a bit of a cinderella story in the making; Favre vs Rodgers of course, Favre vs Cutler, Favre vs... etc.. etc... etc... Will his body fail him, will he take the Vikings to the Playoffs, will Aaron Rodgers rise to the challenge. I haven't been this excited in years!!!! Thanks Brett, I think???

I have a feeling that Brett Favre will always be seeking the Sunday/Monday adrenaline fix that he gets from performing his craft on the NFL Football field. My own experiences remind me of the Monday Night game at Lambeau field right after Sept 11, 2001. (09/24/01 Vs Washington Redskins) The world was watching as Chris Gizzi ran out on the field waving a United States flag. I was on the sideline observing this grand spectacle as thousands of people cheered and were anxious to put the effects of September 11, 2001 behind them. As Chris Gizzi ran out of the tunnel waving old glory my heart raced and my breathing became erratic. I felt as though I was in the middle of the fans and the players during a unique moment in time. I went to a knee and told myself to calm down, relax, and attempt to capture this event in photos. The adrenaline rush I felt has never been replicated.

My feelings about this season are pretty simple. Good Luck Brett, Good Luck Aaron, and let's enjoy this season because history will be made from whistle to whistle, week to week, and month to month. Isn't it a great time to be an NFL Football Fan? I sure think so!
